AT 2.30am on a Sunday morning some time ago, as Street Pastors we came across a young girl who talked to us.

She said, ‘Hey Mister, they must pay you a fortune to be out here at this time of night and in this awful weather?’ ‘No’, we said, ‘we are all volunteers and don’t get paid’.

We gently watched the young girl’s reaction as she tried to get to grips with the fact that there were volunteers out in what was bad weather and in the early hours of the morning just for her and those like her.

She then said something along of the lines that she was very grateful and we moved on. She had been touched by unconditional love.

Getting to grips with the extent of the love that God has for His creation is really difficult as it is both so real but also so far reaching.

He does love us unconditionally and only wants our best. Whatever we may have done, and however long we may have resisted that love, it remains as strong as ever.

I feel sure that more words and songs have been penned about His love than perhaps about anything else in the world.

One hymn puts it like this: The love of God is greater far, than tongue or pen cane ever tell; it goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell … could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies with parchment made; to write the love of God above, would drain the ocean dry. Oh, love of God, how rich and pure; how measureless and strong. It shall for evermore endure; the saints and angels’ song.

No matter who you are or what you may have done or not done, His forgiveness is openly there for you. The bible tells us to ‘ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened unto you’.

There is nothing that God cannot forgive and there is nothing more peaceful and more comforting to know and be in the presence of God. He is our Father and so worthy of our love.

I urge you to look beyond all that’s going on in the world with its horrors of wars and also whatever is going on in your life and find that love, peace and comfort for you personally … right now.
