AS readers will know, I have been in warmer climes and since I arrived, I have been lucky enough to be hosted by a lovely family in a lovely home and so well looked after.

Outside their front door is a small pool, just a little bit bigger than the size of a large paddling pool, in which live a group of fish, some golden and some white, with the largest being over a foot long.

As I watched them, they swam around endlessly crossing past and over each other and moving towards a small waterfall which pushes water on to them.

Now, I have not studied the brains of goldfish, or any other type of fish, but I have often wondered if goldfish in particular are aware of their surroundings and the fact that after so much swimming do they realise they have not gone anywhere at all? Perhaps they are happy doing just that…I just don’t know.

It did make me think how that might sound like in many of our lives … always on the move but not getting anywhere. Perhaps we are caught up in work, or burdened by some other things going on in our lives. Perhaps we are not sure where we want to get to in the first place.

Now I know a lot of people who have achieved much and yet many feel empty. All their efforts have been made to gain wealth or even just to survive and time is passing them by. And how time flies...I could not believe this week when I learned that actress Julie Andrews of ‘The Sound of Music’ fame is now 88 years of age. What happened?

We really don’t have that much time to make much of our lives and God wants to take you and me places. To empower us to live as dynamic Christians and fulfil His calling on our lives.

‘Taste and see that the Lord is good’ we are encouraged; ‘blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him’ and as I have been tasting a number of different foods this week, it is only when you eat that you know what the taste is like.

Jesus wants that opportunity to show us just what His Father’s love for us is like. Ask for that love to find you and pour over you.
