PAUL Di Giacomo wants to write himself into the history books when Morton's new league season begins tomorrow - by helping his club to their first win away to Ross County in EIGHT years.

Ton have suffered a Highland hoodoo over the past decade, suffering seven defeats in Dingwall since a Scottish Cup victory in January 2003, when Alex Williams grabbed a brace.

And former County man Di Giacomo revealed that record is used as motivation in the home dressing room ahead of clashes between the two sides.

Di Giacomo told the Tele: "It's going to be a hard game for us and Morton, as a club, don't have a good record up there.

"I remember playing for County against Morton and that was something that the manager, Derek Adams, used to always say to me.

"He always said 'Morton don't have a good record up here so do not let it stop now' - but I'm on the opposite side now.

"I want to make sure I'm part of one of the first Morton team in recent history that goes up there and does well.

"I believe and the squad believe we are capable of going up there and getting something." The forward spent two seasons with the Highland club before opting to move to Ton during the summer.

And while the 29-year-old is fully focused on getting Ton's league campaign off to a flier, he is also looking forward to seeing his former team-mates.

He said: "I'm really looking forward to going back the up the road just to see my pals again - I spent two years there and made a lot of friends.

"I've a lot of good mates - I still keep in touch with about 80 per cent of the squad that's up there and I got on well with Derek Adams too. I'm looking forward to seeing them all again - but first and foremost we've got a football game to think about and I'm looking to win.

"Before it and after it I'll have a wee blether and enjoy their company but I will be doing my best for Morton during the game and all the emotions will be put to the side." Di Giacomo has already scored five goals in Ton's two cup matches this season and the forward is eager to keep that form going against County tomorrow.

He added: "Personally I've done okay - I'm taking a lot of confidence going into the match, but in football you're only as good as your last game.

"So I have to make sure I keep that going into Saturday to keep my personal run going and hopefully I can keep getting the rub of the green that I've had so far."
