INVERCLYDE secured an emphatic victory over the Glasgow Accies team in the WDCU league match played at Gourock Park on Saturday.

Inverclyde skipper Boswell won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first- but the Alps' openers started their innings well until a fine piece of fielding by Cooke brought the first wicket. Firstly, he did well to stop the ball crossing the boundary and then an accurate return over the stumps allowed Boswell to run out the experienced Martin. A good bowling spell followed from Singh, taking two for seven in nine overs, and then Cooke picked up two wickets - the first to dismiss opener Ahmed, well held down leg side by wicketkeeper Boswell.

This brought visiting captain Tariq to the wicket, but he was run out second ball after a sharp piece of fielding by Singh at square leg. Catches by Pilkington at slip and McDade at point, off Blair's bowling, put pressure on Alps but, incredibly, two further runs outs followed. These came from a combination of indecisive calling and good fielding by the Inverclyde team, and the visitors were all out for 108 in the 36th over.

In reply, Inverclyde's openers Boswell and Cooke rapidly took the total to 94 when Cooke was stumped for 42, but Boswell (37 not out) and Pilkington passed the visitors' low total in the 15th over to gain a comfortable victory - helping their position in the competitive championship table.

Inverclyde now face three difficult away matches in the league, starting with leaders Vale of Leven this Saturday.
