MORTON have ended their interest in former Greenock Juniors and Annan Athletic striker Kenny MacKay, the Tele can exclusively reveal.
Dunoon-based MacKay, who was a member of the Ton’s Under-19 squad in 2009, scored 17 goals in his first season in senior football last term, attracting admiring glances from a host of clubs.
Jim Duffy spoke with the 23-year-old about a return to Cappielow, but he has now dropped his interest and will turn his attention to other targets.
The Ton boss told the Tele: “We’ll not be pursuing our interest in Kenny MacKay.
“He’s a good player, but we’ve just decided to look at other options.
“From my point of view, we’ve decided to call time on that one and look at other players. We wish Kenny well.
“I’m sure he’ll be in demand and manage to get himself a new club.” Meanwhile, former Morton defender Scott Taggart has signed a one-year deal with Dumbarton. The right-back, who featured in midfield for much of last season, rejected an offer to stay at Cappielow.
