Ton boss Jim Duffy was able to add Ross Caldwell, Grant Adam, Peter MacDonald, Ross Forbes, Michael Tidser and Declan McManus to his squad over the course of the last month.

As that half dozen arrived, Jordan Allan, David McNeil, Reece Hands and Andy Barrowman were allowed to leave Cappielow.

And the Ton owner says he was prepared to finance that activity in order to give his manager the best chance of securing promotion.

He told the Tele: “We have made a financial commitment during this transfer window.

“I want us to win the league and that is the best way to win it.

“We’re in the second half of the season now and what we’ve got to do is make sure that we win promotion, whether by winning the league — which I hope it’ll be — or through the play-offs.

“On every occasion over the years that Morton have been promoted, they have always gone up as champions — so I’m hoping to keep that going.”
