MORTON boss Jim Duffy hopes to have another look at Irvine Meadow wideman Gary McCann and could include him in the Under-20s squad for tonight’s match against Clyde at Broadwood.

The 22-year-old, who is understood to have had training stints with Premiership sides St Mirren and Hamilton Accies, played 84 minutes of the Ton second string’s 1-0 win at Ayr United last Tuesday.

Duffy felt McCann showed up well in the second half against the Honest Men and says he wants to run the rule over him again as he considers a summer swoop.

He told the Tele: “I spoke to Gary briefly after the Ayr game and said to him that I thought he did better in the second half.

“You could see he is direct, he’s positive and he put two great crosses over in the second half. We should’ve probably scored from both of them. That delivery is what you want from a winger.

“It’s always difficult when it’s your first game but I think he did pretty well overall and my intention would be to try and get Gary back in again for one of our upcoming [Under-20s] games against Clyde.

“We’ve had one or two other players who’ve been recommended to us through a couple of guys I know who have good contacts in the juniors.

“So we might have another few in to have a look. We’re not looking to sign anyone just now.

“It’s really about considering options for the summer and this just gives us an opportunity to have a good look at them before then.”
