YOUNG cricketers have hit a winner with a local charitable group after they provided £250 of funding for smart new kit.

Inverclyde Cricket Club junior squad were bowled over with the kind gesture from Gourock Rotary Club.

A cheque for the new kit was presented to the junior squad and their coaches by Robert Wilson.

Mr Wilson, Gourock Rotary’s president-elect, said: “Our focus this year is in supporting youth development and Gourock Rotary are very happy to support this group who are involved in helping bring young people into new challenges.” Jim Murphy, club secretary of Inverclyde Cricket Club, thanked the rotarians for their generosity.

He said: “We are extremely happy with this support and it will help our youth development, hopefully allowing the youngsters to develop and enjoy cricket as part of our club.

“After Easter we will be moving to St Columba’s High School for youth training on a Wednesday between 5 and 6pm to which anyone interested is invited.”
