TALENTED Celtic Under-20s forward Luke Donnelly is on the radar of Morton manager Jim Duffy, the Tele can reveal.

The 19-year-old, who can also play in midfield, was farmed out to East Stirling last term and would also join the Ton on loan should a deal be agreed with the Parkhead club.

Cappielow gaffer Duffy confirmed hot prospect Donnelly is among the targets he is keeping tabs on as he bids to bolster his squad for next season’s Championship campaign.

When asked about Donnelly by the Tele, the Ton boss said: “He is one of a number of players we are interested in and have made enquiries about.” Scotland Under-17 cap Donnelly is no stranger to Cappielow having featured there for Celtic’s Under-20s in recent years.

In October 2013, he was an unused substitute as the Bhoys hosted Barcelona in a UEFA Youth League tie in Greenock.

More recently, he hit four goals in last month’s 6-0 rout of Hibs in the Scottish Youth Cup semi-final before scoring again in a 5-2 win over Rangers in the final at Hampden.

As well as turning out for ex-Ton defender Stephen Frail’s young Celts side, Donnelly, who recently penned a two-year contract extension at Parkhead, also gained valuable first-team experience on loan at East Stirling.

Between November and May, he made 14 starts and three sub appearances for the Shire, scoring once in a 4-0 win over Montrose.

In terms of player movement, Duffy expects a lot of activity to occur across Scottish football in the coming weeks, with a host of managers settling into new clubs.

He explained: “Over the last couple of days, there have been a number of clubs releasing players. For instance, Rangers and Motherwell have done it in the last few days.

“A lot of clubs are still in the process because they have new managers who are currently assessing their squads. There’s been a considerable turnover in managers in the last couple of weeks.

“If you think about it, Stevie Aitken went to Dumbarton, Ian Murray went from Dumbarton to St Mirren, Ray McKinnon went to Raith Rovers, and we don’t know what’s going to happen at Rangers.

“That’s just in our division. In other divisions, Brechin are looking for a new manager and Stranraer have just appointed Brian Reid.

“Each manager will consider their own way of playing and look at moving players out and bringing players in.

“There’s been quite a turnaround this summer, so sometimes you just have to let the dust settle and see what happens, to see whether someone you weren’t expecting becomes available.

“Someone just might not be a particular manager’s cup of tea — and that might happen over the next couple of weeks.

“So we will continue speaking to players, agents and clubs and making enquiries.” TALENTED Celtic Under-20s forward Luke Donnelly is on the radar of Morton manager Jim Duffy, the Tele can reveal.
