JIM Duffy reckons every Championship match could easily end in stalemate each week — but hopes his high-flying Morton side’s confidence is enough to swing the game in their favour against Falkirk.

The Cappielow club kicked off their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Renfrewshire rivals St Mirren on the opening weekend. However, they humbled Premiership Hamilton Accies in the Betfred Cup on Tuesday to extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

And Duffy feels the belief that is fostered by that sort of form could be the key to claiming maximum points when the Ton host the Bairns in Greenock tomorrow.

He told the Tele: “Every game is a challenge in this division.

“If you look at the fixture list, you could almost say that every match would end in a draw, because there is so little between the teams.

“And that will be the same on Saturday.

“It could swing one way or another on a pivotal moment, a lapse of concentration or a little break somewhere along the line.

“There won’t be much between the teams, I’m sure of that — but we’ll go into the game and be as positive as we can.

“The confidence should be there at this moment in time, and as a footballer you always perform better if you’re feeling confident.

“At the moment the players have done well and are working hard, and we’ll see if can continue our positive form on Saturday.

“There are no guarantees in football that you can always get a result and Falkirk are a terrific side

After back-to-back away fixtures — four of Morton’s first six matches have been played on the road — Duffy is looking for more of the same from his players on their own patch.

He added: “We have been away to St Mirren, away to Hamilton, away to Albion Rovers, away to Kilmarnock and we had Berwick and Clyde at home.

“Yeah, we’ve had a lot of tough games, but when you’re winning matches the players look forward to the next game rather than maybe having that wee bit of trepidation.

“From our point of view we want to keep that same determination to get a result.

“There are no guarantees in football that you can always get a result and Falkirk are a terrific side - but our desire on Tuesday night was exceptional and if we have a similar desire we won’t be far away.”
