RED-HOT Morton striker Jai Quitongo is loving the League Cup — and now he hopes to translate his Betfred form to the Championship.

The 18-year-old frontman has hit three goals in three starts and two sub appearances in the revamped tournament.

That included scoring the winner against former club Hamilton Accies on Tuesday to fire his side into the quarter-finals of the competition.

Ton now host Falkirk at Cappielow today and Quitongo’s aim is to continue his streak on league duty.

He beamed: “Last season gave me a taste, and knowing that I was at a club where I could get a chance has helped me push on. It’s been brilliant, honestly, absolutely brilliant — a dream start to the season that I couldn’t even have imagined.

“The League Cup has been brilliant. I was delighted we got Hamilton because it’s my ex team and it didn’t work out there.

“I’ve got a long association with the club through my dad. I’ve been in and out of there since I was three or four and he played there.

“My auntie Maggie used to be a secretary and my wee brother [Rico] is a player there. It was also special because my two best pals and my mum were at the game.

“I seem to keep scoring in the League Cup but I’m looking forward to the Falkirk game now. If I’m selected I’ll be over the moon.

“But it’s not about me. The full team were brilliant on Tuesday. From Gats [Derek Gaston] right through to Gary [Oliver]. We’re really united.”

Quitongo missed a couple of chances either side of half-time before finding the back of the Accies net in emphatic fashion on 63 minutes.

And the teenager admitted that he is better acting on instinct when he finds himself in front of goal.

He explained: “When I’ve got more time to think, I don’t always finish it. But when I’m doing it on instinct, I’m better. It’s the same in training.”
