MICHAEL Doyle insists he’s reaping the rewards of extra time spent on the training pitch every day — as he continues to develop his attacking skills.

Since joining Ton, Doyle has never shied away from the fact that his crossing and attacking abilities were in need of improvement.

But he finally feels he is bettering himself with the help of assistant manager Craig McPherson at the end of training every single day.

And the 25-year-old hopes boss Jim Duffy is taking heed of his improvements.

He told the Tele: “When I came to the club I knew my crossing was something I had to work on, and every day in training I’m out there with Craig McPherson. We work on it every single day — that touch getting it out my feet, driving at people and just being confident in the final third.

"It’s not going to happen overnight but I’m hoping as the games go it becomes obvious that I have been working on that aspect of the game.

“I want people to start noticing these things. I would get in these good positions before and maybe over-hit crosses or under-hit a cross.

"Or I wouldn’t get by the man. I’ve been working on these things for quite a while now.

“I know I’m naturally a better defender than Jamie [McDonagh] because he’s had to adapt to playing as a right-back. But I noticed that he would always go forward because he is an attacking player, so I’m always learning.

“I want to show the manager that I’m good going forward, which is what I’ve tried to show in the last couple of games. I hope the gaffer is noticing that.”

Doyle played another 90 minutes for Morton in their 2-1 win over Dumbarton on Saturday and the right-back hopes his form has done enough to give his manager a selection headache when McDonagh returns from suspension.

He added: “It’s good to be back in the team after Jamie came in for a few weeks there and did fantastically well. The manager has shown that we have strength in depth and that other boys who come in can play well.

“I’m looking to give the manager a headache and I’ve got to just keep doing what I’m doing.”
