IAN McCall admits Ayr United let their supporters down on Saturday after being convincingly beaten 4-1 by Morton at Somerset Park.
Two goals each from Ross Forbes and Gary Oliver put the Honest Men to the sword, and McCall reckons his side were ‘soft’ and that they should have scored again late on to make the game interesting.
He said: “We didn’t start the game well. There was just a bit of a softness about us.
“We created some great chances in the game, but in the second half Morton get to the bye-line and score a goal. We’ve got to that same bye-line about 50 times this season and we’ve not scored a goal off it yet.
“That’s very, very disappointing and we feel that we’ve let our fans down. Morton are a good side, but it didn’t look like a 4-1 game to me. But I can’t let that cloud the fact that it is 4-1.
“We took a 4-1 doing at home. We’ve not had many, but in the second half, Craig Moore has to score,[Craig] McGuffie’s got to score, Nicky [Devlin] should score, a [Gary Harkins] header should go in.
“That might have made it interesting, but it just wasn’t to be and that’s really, really disappointing.”
