GARY Oliver says Saturday’s thrashing of Ayr United laid to rest the ghost of ‘the worst game’ he has ever played in.
The Ton frontman netted a deadly double on Saturday as Jim Duffy’s men avenged the miserable 2-1 defeat they suffered at Somerset Park back in September.
Oliver says the emphatic victory shows just how much the Ton team have improved in recent months.
He told the Tele: “The start of the season at Somerset was the worst game I’ve ever played in.
“But I’ve scored two [on Saturday] and it was a good day for me.
“It just shows how much football can change and turn around.”
Oliver reckons Ton were good value for the margin of victory they managed, but believes that his second strike — and Ton’s fourth — was important.
He said: “We did really well.
“The first half in particular, we were 3-0 up and looking good.
“They’ve then got a goal and came back into the game a wee bit, but I think thankfully the fourth goal killed the game for Ayr.
“They’ve always got a wee bit of a chance to come back into the game when we’ve only got a two goal lead between the two teams.
“But three goals is obviously very difficult to come back from, so it kind of killed their chances and relaxed us a wee bit and helped us through the game.”
