GARY Oliver admits he is working on improving the ‘poaching’ aspect of his game and says it is already paying dividends with two goals in three outings.

A big part of Oliver’s game is his desire to come deep to receive the ball from midfield and bring more striking options into play.

But the 22-year-old says he’s already reaping the rewards of changing his ways to become a more predatory forward.

Morton have scored seven goals in their last two games and the ex-Hearts attacker insists he’s pleased with his own contributions and explained that the Cappielow club are always working on their forward play — which he is benefiting from all the time.

He told the Tele: “We’ve been doing a lot of crossing and finishing in training and that’s good for the strikers especially.

"The gaffer has been trying to help me as well andtellsmemaybenottocomeas deeptogetontheball.

“That’s helped me already because I think I’ve been a bit more of a goal threat.

“The team have scored seven in two fixtures and I’ve got two of them, so that’s pleasing.

“I think the gaffer mentioned that teams were starting to read how I play so to change it up.

"They saw it last year and know that I like to come short, so he’s been telling me to stay up top. It’s more effective I think for the team and myself.

“It seems to be working and I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.”

Oliver added: “I like doing both parts of the game but the most important thing for me is adding more goals. I need to stay longer and stick in the six-yard box because that’s where you get the goalsfrom.

“I’ve proved that because the two I’ve scored recently have come from there. I’m already more of a threat but I’m still learning the game and that’s what I want to be able to be relied upon to do.”

The striker insists everyone at Ton is enjoying their football at the moment and their form has no tbeen better. He also believes today is a good time to welcome Dundee United to Cappielow.

He said: “When you start to win and score goals you can’t wait for the next game. It’s the same with all the boys and we’re all buzzing for United’s visit. I’m sure it’ll be difficult for both teams.

“Whoever is on their A-game will take the points but we’re full of confidence just now and hopefully that can play a part in a victory .

“It’s a great time for us to be playing top of the table — probably the best time for us. We can establish ourselves as a good team by playing well against them like we did last year.

“And another goal for me will keepmeflying—if that comes I’ll be happy.”
