MORTON have extended the contract of young central defender Jack Iredale.
The club announced this afternoon that the Australian has agreed a new deal which will keep him at Cappielow til next June.
The centre-half penned a short term contract in the summer and made a couple of first team appearances before being farmed out on loan to Queen’s Park.
Iredale has made a good impact with The Spiders, featuring in 11 League One fixtures and Ton boss Jim Duffy has been convinced enough to offer the 21-year-old an extension.
He will now return to Greenock to spend the rest of the campaign with his parent club.
Duffy said: “He’s going to come back and compete. It’s going to be difficult, and I’ve explained that to him, that we have good players in the area he plays – left centre-back or left-back – but he’s looking forward to the challenge.
“And like a lot of boys at 21, he’s got a lot of potential. But potential has to be realised and Jack knows he’s going to have to work on certain aspects of his game and if he can, he’s got a lot of attributes, that’s for sure.”
