LUCA Gasparotto says it was a no-brainer to sign an extended deal at Morton after negotiating his release from Falkirk.

The Canadian defender had been on an emergency loan at Cappielow since November but revealed an honest and frank discussion with Bairns boss Paul Hartley was enough for him to know that he was surplus to requirements.

He says the game time he has enjoyed since re-joining Ton has been exactly what he was looking for — which was another reason that he was so eager to remain in Greenock until the end of the season.

He told the Tele: “I think it was always on the cards that I was going to stay, whether it was on loan or on a permanent basis.

“But I’m delighted to get it done and over the line, so that I can focus on the football.

“It can be a stressful time thinking about where I’m going to be.

“Both clubs worked well together and myself included, so it was quite easy and smooth.

“We were all honest and vocal about it and for me, I’ve said it all along, it was about playing games.

“I think there’s a much better chance of me doing that at Morton.

“Falkirk were honest with me too and I made the decision to stay here and I think I can only get better from playing games. So Morton is the best place for me to develop and continue my improvement.”

The 22-year-old thanked Jim Duffy for allowing him the chance to stay on the books at Morton.

The new contract will run until June 10 but Gasparotto did not rule out the possibility of extending it beyond that — as long as he is still wanted by the management and the deal suits everyone involved.

He added: “I want to better myself and become as good a player as possible.

“It is very frustrating not playing and sitting on the bench but thankfully Morton have given me the opportunity to play more games.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity at Cappielow.

“But as far as I’m aware the deal is just until the end of the season and then we’ll revisit it then.

“But honestly, all I’m focusing on is until the end of the season anyway.

“If the gaffer wants me to stay after that then we’ll have a chat and then we’ll find out what happens next.”
