JIM Duffy reckons Scott Tiffoney’s wonder strike at the weekend is the perfect example of the club’s commitment to youth talent.

Tiffoney, 19, lashed home an incredible shot from 25 yards to put Ton 2-0 to the good at Tannadice.

Earlier in his career the talented teenager was farmed out to Clyde to get some experience and first-team games.
Now he’s back at Cappielow and making a real impact for his side in the final third.

Boss Duffy said: “We know Tiff can do that. He’s a talented teenager who’s come through the ranks, which is always great for a club like us to promote our own young players.

“And it was a fantastic goal. But his general energy levels, along with Gary Oliver, were a constant thorn in the side of Dundee United.”

Duffy was also delighted to see left sided full-back Jack Iredale score his first competitive goal for the club too, with a wonderful individual effort and cap a 3-0 scoreline.

He said: “That’s Jack’s first goal and he was terrific. When you are winning 2-0, you’re maybe getting a little bit more confidence and belief that you can go do something like that.

“If it’s 0-0 you might just go stick it up the pitch.

“But the front two players, young Tiff and Gary Oliver, they set the tone. They chased, harried and pressed and worked. That allows everyone else to go and back it up.

“If your front players are lazy then it allows the opposition to dictate the game but our two boys put in such a shift. And that was the trigger for us to do well.”
