MORTON manager Jim Duffy has praised Brechin City’s fighting spirit this season ahead of the game between the two sides today.

Ton host the part-timers at Cappielow this afternoon, as the Greenock side look to solidify their place in the play-offs.

And despite Brechin’s lowly position, with no win all season in the league, Duffy feels their determination isn’t in doubt.

He told the Tele: “We try to emphasise to the players how difficult the games have been against Brechin, and what it’s not easy to do when you’re not winning games is to keep fighting.

“I had a couple of years down there, the chairman was terrific, and was really supportive of his managers and you can see that.

"They’ve had Michael O’Neill, Ray McKinnon, and now Darren Dods is cutting his teeth there and won promotion with them last year. It’s a tough year for him.

“A lot of teams would have changed their manager by this time of the year but he’s still there and I think that’s almost unheard of in modern day football.”

But the Ton boss says his own side’s determination has shone through in recent weeks, and was exemplified by their performance against Dunfermline last weekend.

He added: “Our boys have been working extremely hard and are showing a terrific attitude and desire to get results.

“The result against Dunfermline typified that, not a classic football match by any stretch of the imagination in difficult conditions, but the players just rolled their sleeves up, dug in and got a point in a game where they could have ended up with nothing.

“If they keep showing that spirit then we’ll continue to pick up points.”
