FRANK Ross was delighted to secure a point for Morton against Dundee United — and insisted that the late goal belonged to him.

The winger came off the bench when Ton were 1-0 down and had a big impact on the game.

Ross, 19, scored directly from a corner deep into stoppage time and although the ball took a nick off United’s Billy King, he was certain it was already on its way in — and revealed that he’d been practicing.

He said: “It’s my goal.

“After training when I was at Aberdeen, I used to do it quite a lot.

“I’d get the balls from the corner and try and hit the back of the net and the repetition has paid off.

“I’ve actually scored two before. It was the under-14s season and I scored two corners and I’ve done it again today.”

Ton fans could have been forgiven for thinking the match was over when Robert Thomson missed a golden opportunity late on, but Ross said that the team kept believing.

He said: “We always believed that we could get other chances and luckily we did.

“There was still 10 minutes left when Thomson missed so we knew we’d get another chance and luckily I scored from that corner.”

Ross said that the strike was up there with his most important goals.

He said: “My first goal for Morton against Dumbarton in the cup was quite a big goal but this is just as big.”

The winger was full of praise for Jim Duffy’s tactics and says he enjoys playing under the Morton boss.

He added: “For wingers especially, Duffy just wants you to attack them one v one every chance possible and that’s what I did. We try and play football most weeks and obviously the pitch is quite cut up so we couldn’t play the way we wanted to, but we showed good character and we’re happy with the point.”

The result means that Morton remain in third spot in the Championship, while playoff rivals United have slipped to fifth.

Now, with just five games remaining for Morton, Ross is hopeful they can keep going and reach the promotion playoffs.

Ross said: “Hopefully we can get the play-offs at the end of the season and keep winning.

“It’s a very important point.”
