MORTON midfielder Kyle Thomson hopes to build on his first start for Ton and become a regular in the first-team.

The American signed with the Ton last month, but had not featured in any of the matchday squads until this week.

The former Loyola Ramblers player featured for the whole game against Dumbarton in the Irn-Bru Cup on Tuesday night, narrowly losing the tie 2-1.

While admitting he’s been frustrated at not having a chance to play, he’s determined to work hard and earn a spot in the first team.

He told the Tele: “It was nice to get playing, the first 20 minutes was a bit hectic and I think that showed on the scoreboard, but after that we were good, and for me personally it was good to get my first start.

“It’s been good since I signed. It took me a while to become acclimated with everything but after that it was alright.

“It’s a challenge every day, and you have to earn that spot, but I’m up for that and I’m enjoying life.

“It’s been a little frustrating not being in the squad at all but I trust the manager’s decision and I’ve just got to work hard to earn it.”

The midfielder had a few chances to score himself, shooting serval times from outside the box, and Thomson revealed it’s something he likes to do whenever the opportunity presents itself.

He added: “I quite like having long-range shots, it’s in my arsenal of skills I like to have a pop, especially playing as that deep lying midfield.”
