RUARIDH Langan admits a temporary loan move out of Morton may help him progress.

The 20-year-old midfielder made his first start for the first team last week in their Irn-Bru Cup tie against Dumbarton.
But he has been limited to just seven appearances so far in his Ton career, since first joining the academy in 2012.

Ray McKinnon’s side also has five players who can play central midfield, with Charlie Telfer, Chris Millar, Jim McAlister, Michael Tidser and Kyle Thomson on the books at Cappielow.

With the competition in midfield in mind, McKinnon may look to send the former St Stephen’s pupil out on loan this year and Langan believes he needs to be playing regularly to kick on in his career.

Langan told the Tele: “There’s the possibility of me going out on loan to get game time.

“I need to be playing now and I’ll just see what happens over the next couple of weeks.”

The manager will have to complete his business before August 31 when the transfer window closes.

Previously clubs below the Premiership could strengthen their sides by using an emergency loan.

But a new FIFA directive has been enforced from the start of the season cutting off that option, and temporary transfers have to be completed during the windows now.

But there is a slight dispensation for League One and Two clubs, with the windows for temporary transfers extended by one month – until the last day of September and February respectively.

Teams will still be allowed to sign goalkeepers on an emergency basis if approved by the SPFL board, with a club able to sign a keeper for seven days at a time of exceptional circumstances.
