MORTON have taken a former Perth Glory forward on trial, the Tele can reveal.

Joe Knowles has been training with the Ton this week, as Ray McKinnon has a look at the London-born forward.

The 22-year-old striker left the Australian side in the summer and is looking to pursue opportunities abroad.

McKinnon has said he would like to strengthen his forward options and versatility in his players has always been a key factor.

Knowles potentially fits that bill, with the striker also being able to play out wide and in behind the striker in the number 10 role as well.

The Scottish transfer window closes at the end of this month, a week on Friday, so any potential deals would have to be wrapped up by then.

Knowles began in West Ham United’s youth academy, before heading Down Under.

He progressed through the ranks at ECU Joondaloop, before signing with Perth Glory’s academy back in 2013.

Knowles moved through the youth academy, before making his first team debut at the age of 19 against Melbourne City in November 2015, and he signed his first senior contract at the start of last summer.

Knowles had to bide his time until he became more of a regular feature in Glory’s first team this season, netting his first competitive goal against the Newcastle Jets in the A-League in December 2017.

But the forward opted to leave the club last month, after making 15 appearances for the A-League side, five of which were starts. He was the captain of their youth side last season.
