MORTON will continue to run the rule over trialist Joe Knowles.

The Tele exclusively revealed earlier this week that the former Perth Glory forward was training with Ray McKinnon’s squad.

The striker moved through the Australian club’s youth academy before making his first team debut at the age of 19 against Melbourne City in November 2015, signing his first senior contract at the start of last summer.

But the 22-year-old opted to leave the Australian A-League side last month as he considers his next move.

McKinnon says he’ll continue to train with the Ton for the time being, but whether he will sign London-born Knowles remains to be seen.

He told the Tele: “We’re still looking at him.

“He’s got his own things in Australia to deal with before anything happens.

“He’s done okay. He looks like a decent player.

“He’s friends with Jack Iredale, he’s played at a good level, he’s in with us training at the moment and we’ll see what happens.”

The manager said he would like to add one more player previously, before he signed Scott Tiffoney on loan from Livingston for six months.

The former Dundee United manager says he’s always willing to look for more players to add to the squad if they are the right fit.

He added: “You’ve always got to look at how to try and improve your squad, if you don’t then you stand still. If somebody comes along that is better than what you’ve got then you try to sign him.

“Are we in that position at the moment? Probably not, but I would like to be in a position to do something like that if something became available.

“I wouldn’t say never, but I would only ever bring in someone if they added a different quality to the team that we don’t have.”

Meanwhile, a number of youngsters at Morton have been offered on loan to other clubs in Scotland.

McKinnon has been keen for the likes of Ruaridh Langan and Ben Armour to get more consistent game time at a first-team level.

Next Friday is when the transfer window officially shuts in Scotland, so the Ton boss would need to wrap up any business by then.

He added: “We’ve put their names out to a few clubs and we’re hoping that we can get them a move out and some game time, as I feel they need to do that.

“We’ve offered them to Championship, League One and League Two teams and we’re hoping somebody might see that they have something to improve their team.

“If not they’ll need to try and play in the reserves.”
