MORTON keeper Ryan Scully has fond memories of his time at Dunfermline — but he insists that’s all going out the window when they sides go head-to-head today.

The Ton host the Pars, where the Irish stopper spent two seasons on loan from 2013-15, at Cappielow this afternoon.
He was a regular starter while on loan with the Fife outfit from Partick Thistle, back when they were in League One.

The future could have been a lot different for Scully if Dunfermline had been promoted in the 2013-14 season.

If the Pars had moved up to the Championship there was every chance Scully would have signed for them, but they fell short in the play-off final, losing 4-1 to Cowdenbeath on aggregate.

He remained on loan for a second season after that, but the Pars limped to seventh place that year, while Morton were promoted as champions.

Scully is grateful for the opportunity given to him by Dunfermline but says he will be pulling out all the stops to deny his old side this afternoon.

He told the Tele: “I loved my time at Dunfermline, it’s probably the best time in my career so far, apart from here, and it was my first time getting regular first team football.

“It was a huge development stage in my career and I’ve got a lot to thank Dunfermline for.

“After the first season there was talk of me staying there, but I think the compensation was the stumbling block because of my age, and I think they were banking on getting promoted.

“We were beaten by Cowdenbeath in the final and things just didn’t pan out and it was a disappointing second season with them as we didn’t get promotion that year.

“I went back to Thistle and tried to push for a starting spot with a Premiership team then.

“I worked with a lot of great coaches and people at Dunfermline, I have a lot of fond memories of the club but that all gets put aside today when we hopefully get the three points.”

The goalkeeper retained his starting spot last weekend against Dundee United, with new manager Jonatan Johansson opting to stick with the 25-year-old over Derek Gaston.

The shotstopper thinks his side have adjusted well to the change of manager, with not much changing tactically between the Finn and his predecessor Ray McKinnon.

He added: “He’s been good, he’s still getting his points across but training has been enjoyable. He’s still finding his feet, as we all are, and he just needs time and I’m sure once he gets his assistant settled in that will help him a lot.

“Everything has been good and he gets his points across clearly, he’s very organised and it’s been enjoyable so far and hopefully we can just add the results to it now.

“We’re confident, it was disappointing to lose the late goal last Saturday but apart from that it was a good performance.

“Dundee United didn’t cause us too many problems, we looked good in our shape and it was just gutting to lose that late goal.

“We changed the formation, but it was similar principles to what we were doing in terms of shape, getting organised and being positive when we go forward.

“The more we work with it going forward we’ll be even better than we were last Saturday.”
