MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson admitted last week’s performance against Dundee United gave his side ‘false hope’ and conceded there was a lot of work to be done after stuttering to a draw against Dunfermline Athletic.

The Ton looked impressive at Tannadice last week for the Finn’s first game in charge and were unlucky to come away with just a point after Dundee United scored a late equaliser.

But the new boss was far from impressed with his side’s display on his Cappielow debut against the Pars on Saturday, as they came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw.

The home side were sloppy in possession and Dunfermline were deservedly in front after 68 minutes via a smart finish from Andy Ryan.

But Scott Tiffoney, inset, came off the bench to rescue a point for Morton – with former Ton goalkeeper Lee Robinson having a howler.

The 43-year-old didn’t hold back in his assessment of the match, and admitted there was a lot of work to be done at training this week.

He told the Tele: “I’m pleased with the point but I’m not pleased with the performance.

“I’m pleased with the point in terms of where we were in the second half, but you’re obviously not pleased with a point at home.

“We discussed it and I think the Dundee United performance and the shape looked good, and it maybe gave us a little bit of false hope.

“We thought it would work but the shape wasn’t right on Saturday, especially at the start of the second half and we can see there is a lot of work to be done in terms of that.

“I can’t fault the players in terms of work rate, but the shape was way too open and the game was going backwards and forwards too much and Dunfermline were on top.

“There is a lot of work to be done and I’m pleased with the way we never gave up, the way we got the goal and the way we finished, we were a little bit more positive, we got the ball forward.

“I felt the tempo wasn’t there, there was a negative tempo and Dunfermline pressed us really well and that made it difficult for us to play forward, but we were too negative again.”

Chris Millar was missing the matchday squad, after the manager revealed he failed a late fitness test on Saturday morning.

But the Ton boss revealed it was nothing serious.

He said: “Chris had a little niggle, he had a fitness test this morning and we tried to give him as long as we could but we obviously missed him with his experience and his work rate.”
