MORTON Reserves confidently swept aside Scottish champions Celtic’s second string side 3-1.

The Ton were 2-0 up after 21 minutes thanks to Blair Docherty and Alexander Easdale, before a Benyu Kundai penalty moments later pulled one back for Celtic.

A minute before half-time Reece Lyon’s header made it 3-1 to John Sutton’s side, as they saw out the game comfortably.

Morton scored their first after 14 minutes when a short corner caught Celtic out and after a scramble in the box Docherty on loan at Largs Thistle, prodded the ball home in the crowded box.

Seven minutes later Ben Armour broke down the left and, clear on goal, he unselfishly passed to striker Easdale, who comfortably rolled the ball into the net.

It didn’t take Celtic long to pull one back, however, when two minutes later they were awarded a penalty.

Gavin Watt brought down Kundai, with the Zimbabwean international dusting himself down to coolly slot the penalty away, with Derek Gaston inches away from making the save.

The visitors were far from out of the game, and Gaston was forced into action a number of times to deny the Glasgow side.

Eardley and Armour were combining well down the right, and the latter’s toe-poked effort on 36 minutes was clawed away by goalkeeper Reece Willison.

But the Ton reserves added a third a minute before the break when Lewis McGrattan’s free-kick found Lyon in the box, and the midfielder’s looping header sailed into the back of the net to restore Morton’s two-goal cushion.

The Ton kept up the high pressure, but Daniel Arzani, the Australian forward recently brought in on a two-year loan deal from Manchester City, went down in the box after Nathan Durham tried to win the ball.

Referee Craig Napier went straight to his cards and booked the 19-year-old for simulation. Arzani was taken off minutes later.

After a raft of changes from Celtic, they slowly began to work their way back into the game. Gaston pulled off a string of saves from Kerr McInroy ,PJ Crossan and Oko-Flex to keep the Ton in front.

Eardley was sent off in the closing minutes for a second yellow, but it had little bearing on the result as Morton picked up their second win of the league season
