MORTON’S Alexander Easdale hopes to learn from the experienced strikers at the club after netting his first goal of the season for the reserves.

The 18-year-old netted the second goal as the Ton reserves beat Celtic’s second string 3-1 at Cappielow on Tuesday.

The striker says playing alongside first-team player Denny Johnstone earlier in the season, as well as having former Motherwell and St Mirren striker John Sutton as his coach, is a huge help for his game.

He told the Tele: “It was good playing alongside someone like Denny Johnstone. He’s experienced, he’s good at holding the ball up and it’s great having the likes of Gats [Derek Gaston] and the coach as well, being a striker.

“He and Derek Anderson always give me advice. They help me through the game and I feel confident.

“There are no nerves and I just go out there and do my job.”

The forward started at Morton in the under-13s along with the likes of Reece Lyon and Ben Eardley.

They’ve had a lot of success through the years, most recently winning the Development League last season.

Easdale hopes the good times continue for him and his team-mates as he targets a first-team place in the future.

He added: “We always go into training together and are local boys. It’s good to enjoy moments like these with all of them as well and to win the league was a great feeling.

“I just want to break into the first team and do as well as I can. If I keep doing what I’m doing for the reserves we’ll see what happens.”
