MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson has refused to blame Michael Tidser’s penalty miss as the turning point in Saturday’s hammering by Ayr.
After Gary Oliver was brought down in the box by former Ton loanee Ross Doohan, midfielder Tidser stepped up, despite looking to have taken a heavy knock in the first half.
The 28-year-old, who has netted from the penalty spot already this season against Dundee United last month, looked to add to his six goals scored this campaign.
But his spot-kick was poor, with Doohan easily able to stop the effort.
Tidser was substituted only a few minutes later because of the injury.
After that the Ton’s chances were few and far between, as Ayr went on to hit four more goals as they cruised to a 5-1 victory.
But Johansson insisted his side were still well in the game after the penalty miss.
He told the Tele: “It was a poor penalty.
“He’s usually very good from the penalty spot and we’re disappointed with it.
“But we’re not blaming it because we were still on the front foot after that and still creating opportunities from set plays and all the goals were silly to lose.”
