MORTON are remaining tight-lipped on a potential TV deal for the Championship with BBC Scotland.

A new £700,000-a-year-deal has reportedly been struck to showcase 20 live second tier games, which would be on Friday nights, for the next two seasons.

But the majority of cash would fall to the Premiership clubs in the agreement, yet to be officially confirmed, with the deal believed to start before Christmas this year.

The Tele contacted Morton’s chief executive Warren Hawke, who is also on the SPFL board, but he refused to comment.

Under SPFL rules the money would be added to the overall prize pot distributed to clubs at the end of the season.

It’s also reported that clubs finishing towards the bottom end of this season’s Championship will earn less than £7,000 a year, despite being the main focus of the deal, which would work out as less than one per cent of the total cash from the contract.

Meanwhile, the winner of the Premiership would stand to win over £90,000, over 13 per cent of the £700,000 deal.

Championship chairmen reportedly argued for a bigger percentage of the deal at a recent meeting between the clubs.

But it’s understood the Premiership clubs could then do the same with the BT Sport and Sky Sports deals in place for them when they push for more money with their negotiations.

The SPFL are currently locked in discussions after inviting bids for the rights to top flight games, with the current deal until 2020.

The last deal was reportedly worth around £20million per year to share 60 SPFL games, with the new deal expected to bring in more money.
