ASSISTANT manager Peter Houston hopes his continued work with the Scotland Under-21s can help Morton in the future.
Jonatan Johansson’s number two will carry on with his role as Scot Gemmill’s assistant, which he started back in March.
The under-21s have a range of talent from the top teams in the country, and the former Dundee United and Falkirk boss says having those important contacts could help Morton when looking for transfers in the future.
He told the Tele: “I’ve done that since March and I’ll continue to do that.
“It’ll be good for the club that I continue to do that as I can make contacts with younger players at big clubs. And who knows, there might be players who are not getting picked for their first team, who are in the international team and have to go out on loan somewhere.
“I’m not saying this will happen but it could happen, as long as I have a relationship with the players then they might want to come to Morton and learn their trade and try and do well for Morton and get into the first team.”
Meanwhile, Morton have been drawn away to Montrose in the third round of the Scottish Youth Cup, with the game to be played on Friday November 9.
Last season the Ton youngsters were beaten 3-1 by eventual winners Hibernian at the quarter-final stage.
