MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson says Kyle Thomson is working hard to make his way into the first team fold.

The American midfielder signed a six-month contract back in July with the club after receiving international clearance to play for Ray McKinnon’s side at the time.

The 22-year-old has only made one appearance so far for the Greenock side, starting against Dumbarton in the Challenge Cup back in August.

Thomson has failed to break into Johansson’s squad so far and 18-year-old midfielder Reece Lyon looks to have leapfrogged the American in the pecking order after making an appearance last week against Ayr United.

Johansson revealed he picked the Ton youngster over Thomson as he added more versatility from the bench and he had been in form for the reserves.

Johansson told the Tele: “Kyle is doing well in training and working hard.

“But I look at the player types from the bench for the squad, he’s been in all of my squads, he’s been perfectly fine and trains every day.

“But then you look at who can come in at different positions and make an impact.

“Reece has been doing really well and that’s why he got an opportunity from the bench last week.”
