GOALKEEPER Ryan Scully believes Morton players repaid the supporters after the hammering against Ayr United with a hard-fought point in the Highlands.

Morton bounced back from the 5-1 loss at home to the Honest Men with a well-earned draw against Inverness Caley Thistle on Saturday.

Scully says the players were determined to give the fans who made the 200 mile journey up to the Caledonian Stadium a performance to be proud of.

The Ton shotstopper insists they redeemed themselves by showing the desire and fight which he believes was lacking in their display against Ian McCall’s team.

Scully was delighted to send the fans home happy but is frustrated Ton won’t have the chance to build on the result with the international break coming up this weekend.

He told the Tele: “We showed the desire which was lacking against Ayr and gave the travelling support, who pay their hard earned money to come up to places like Inverness, something to shout about.

“I’m glad we rewarded them with a point.

“In the end we’re pleased with the draw, we came under a wee bit of pressure in that second half, but the main thing to do was to show a bit of character which was lacking last week.

“We showed fight and hunger in abundance on Saturday.
“We’re a little bit disappointed with the goal we conceded, but we had a few chances to nick it as well.

“The main thing though was it was an improved performance.

“After the Ayr result it would have been easy to come up to a place like Inverness and go into a shell and hide, but we stood up to it.

“They’re a big physical team and we showed a lot of desire and hunger.

“The disappointing thing is that it’s international week this week, and we can’t keep that momentum going from our performance.”

Jonatan Johansson’s side had to withstand some late pressure from the Caley Jags.

Inverness bombarded the box with crosses, with a clear height advantage over their Morton counterparts.

It was important to have an organised defence and Scully felt as a unit they were much improved, although he was disappointed with the timing of Inverness’s equaliser.

He added: “You know when you’re coming up against these sorts of teams it’s important to keep a high line in defence, and it allows me to come and collect the ball which makes my life easier rather than getting bashed off six foot-plus guys.

“We need to look back at the goal.

“It seems like a simple ball over the top, but it was just disappointing to concede on the stroke of half-time as we could have gone in at 1-0 and seen the game out.”
