MORTON’S Charlie Telfer admits his side need little motivation this week in training for their next fixture against Falkirk.

Former Ton boss Ray McKinnon brought the midfielder to the Ton from Dutch side Almere City during the summer, after having previously played under him at Dundee United.

But the pair’s time together was short-lived this time around, with McKinnon leaving Cappielow for Falkirk after just three months at the Greenock club.

The Ton host the Bairns this weekend, and Telfer hopes they can get their first win under new boss Jonatan Johansson against the Forth Valley side.

He said Tele: “I don’t think we’ll need much motivation this week that’s for sure, we’re all looking forward to it and it’s just a big game for us anyway.

“Even though it’s Ray McKinnon we’re playing against it would have been a big game for us playing against another team anyway, it comes for us at a good time.

“It was disappointing when he left but it is what it is. We were all upset and angry with how it happened.

“We’d trained on the day and had just picked up a good result against Ross County and thought we were going to build on that momentum.

“It was more the frustration that Ray would walk away from that. But each to their own, Ray and his team made the decision and we were more angered that we couldn’t build on the positive start we had made to the season.”

Falkirk are currently bottom of the Championship with just one win to their name this season against part-timers Alloa Athletic.

But Morton are not on the greatest run of form either, and have yet to record a win since August, drawing three and losing twice since their victory over Ross County.

Telfer hopes a win over Falkirk can help kickstart their season.

He added: “Falkirk are struggling but it will be tough for us. They’re fighting for points, and the manager will have them riled up as he knows it’s a big game for himself as well. It should be a tough match but we’ve got enough to get the three points.

“The United game we were really unfortunate not to get the win, the Dunfermline game we weren’t happy with large parts of it and the Inverness game we could have done more, so its been mixed fortunes.”

The midfielder has recently worked his way back into the starting line-up after a spell out of the team.

Telfer was used sparingly off the bench when Johansson arrived but has scored twice in his last two games.
Now he’s hoping to settle his season down after a stuttering start.

He said: “I’m really enjoying it at Morton. We began really well in pre-season, the manager left and then I dropped out of the team.

“The new manager has come in and the last couple of weeks have been good for me personally, I’m back in the team and scoring goals.

“Hopefully I can kick on from here and keep influencing the side. It’s frustrating when the break comes after a decent showing last time out at Inverness.

“Hopefully we can continue where we left off and the team can pick up some consistent form – and we can pick a win up soon. I’d love that to start on Saturday.”
