MORTON duo Denny Johnstone and Chris Millar are fighting to be fit for this weekend’s grudge match with Falkirk.

The striker and midfielder have been out of action for the last few weeks after both aggravated old injuries.

Johnstone took a knock to his knee, the same one he had surgery on earlier this year, and which caused him to miss a chunk of Ton’s opening fixtures.

Millar meanwhile damaged his groin, and despite coming back last month against Ayr United, he was forced off early in the second half after the injury flared up.

Manager Jonatan Johansson says the pair cannot be rushed back – and because of the nature of their injuries he isn’t able to give a timescale for their return.

He told the Tele: “They haven’t joined in with the ball work although we’ve been pushing them hard last week.

“It is a waiting game for both as the injuries they have are hard to put a time frame on recovery wise. It could be another few days, but it could be a few weeks as well. We just need to keep monitoring them.

“The main thing is for me that the players have to be ready when they’re coming back, and that means mentally as well. They need to be fully fit.

“Unfortunately injuries are a part of the game and we’ve been talking a lot about what we can do to try and keep them to a minimum.

“It’s tough because it’s been pre-existing stuff for both Denny and Chris.

“You can work the rest of the body while they are injured so they can feel as fit as possible when they come back and shorten the time they are unavailable for selection.”
