MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson admits it’s a relief for him to finally be up to full numbers with his backroom staff.

The Ton boss came in with only goalkeeping coach David Wylie in place when he took over at the club last month.

It took some time for his assistant Peter Houston and first team coach and sports scientist Mark Farrell to be appointed, but he is now up to a full complement of staff.

In the meantime, Johansson had to take most of the coaching burden himself, getting help from academy staff John Sutton and Derek Anderson whenever possible.

It’s taken a lot of pressure off in his first managerial job, and he’s hoping the players and the team can now start to kick on.

He told the Tele: “We, managers and coaches, love coaching. It’s always fun to do but it does take a team to get the best results.

“With Housty in and to get Mark was very important.

“We need to have a good sports scientist in to help plan training sessions, to get the data and use it for seeing how much players can train and how to plan the week and know how the players are fitness wise and on the injury front.

“Alyson [Fielding, club physio] has been fantastic doing a lot of work but Mark coming in, with the players that have been injured, he can help get them back to full fitness and get them back to training so they are 100 per cent ready to go into the training sessions and games.

“It’s a really important part of Mark’s job to make sure everyone’s fitness levels are up to the highest level.”
