MORTON captain Jim McAlister says it’s important he and the rest of the club’s senior players help the manager out whenever possible.

Ton boss Jonatan Johansson stressed the importance of the relationship between himself and the senior squad members as a vital cog shortly after his arrival.

McAlister has stepped up to the plate to help the manager guide the relatively young team at Morton and the 32-year-old says he’s more than happy to help.

He told the Tele: “It’s important because it’s a youngish squad we have here, and if the senior players are asked to pass on any information to help the younger ones then we’re always happy to do it.

“The pleasing thing is the young boys are willing to listen and learn, which makes your job easier as well. The manager is a novice as well with it being his first managerial job so he needs all the help he can get, and if that comes from the senior players then we’re more than happy to help.”

McAlister was also pleased with the side’s performance against Inverness Caley Thistle.

The Ton earned a 1-1 draw in the Highlands, and the captain insisted it was vitally important to put in a good performance ahead Saturday’s game against Falkirk.

He added: “It was a good way to bounce back.

“It’s renowned as a tough place to go over the years but the pleasing thing was we started really well and got the rewards through the early goal.”
