JONATAN Johansson was delighted to grab his first win as Morton boss.

The Cappielow side ran out 1-0 victors at home on Saturday against 10-man Falkirk thanks to a late Bob McHugh header.
It was Morton’s first win in almost two months since beating Ross County back in August.

Johansson has drawn three and lost one since arriving at the club last month, and was a happy man at full-time, securing his first victory as a manager.

He told the Tele: “It was very important on a personal level and also to stop the rot.

“We haven’t played badly but we have been unable to manage to get a win.

“Three points is massive in this league and it’s an important win.”

The Finn admitted there were mild concerns from him that Morton would be unable to score, but he was happy to see McHugh come up with the goods after being on the bench in recent weeks.

The manager added: “I was a little bit worried the goal wasn’t going to come, because people think automatically because a man is sent off it’s going to be easy.

“But it’s not, they dropped deeper and they still defended with the same amount of players, they just don’t have the same attacking threat for me.

“I kept shouting to them that they shouldn’t change and to keep playing the way they were and let Falkirk change.

“It was great to see Bob on the scoresheet, he’s been frustrated a little bit in the last few weeks.

“I’ve been trying to keep him happy and it was great for him to come on and score.”

Meanwhile Morton have been drawn at home to Peterhead in the third round of the Scottish Cup.

It will be the Blue Toon’s first return to Cappielow since the Ton clinched promotion from League One, beating them 3-1 in 2015.

Former Ton manager Jim McInally is in charge at the Balmoor club, and he helped steer his side to a 3-2 win over Lowland League outfit Kelty Hearts in the last round.

The ties will be played on Saturday November 24.
