CLUB captain Jim McAlister hopes Morton’s win over Falkirk can kick-start their season.

The Ton picked up their first win since Ray McKinnon departed back in August, thanks to a late Bob McHugh header.

They had to work hard for the victory after taking the game by the scruff of the neck once Bairns goalkeeper Leo Fasan was sent off early in the second half.

Morton were sitting in second when they picked up their win over Ross County back on August 25, but have gone on a run of two losses and three draws since.

But Jonatan Johansson’s team are now into sixth, two points off the play-off positions with a game in hand over some of the teams above them.

McAlister is aiming high with the Ton, and says it was vital his side got that winning feeling back at Cappielow.

He told the Tele: “We needed to kickstart our season after losing momentum when Ray left.

“The crowd was brilliant on Saturday.

“It’s always hard when teams go down to 10 men but I thought we kept our discipline well.

“We kept playing in the same manner and luckily Bob popped up with a goal at the end.

“We limited them to very few chances, were solid at the back and we had that wee bit of quality at the end.”
