MORTON loanee Kerr Waddell says he’s in the dark about his future at Morton after New Year.

The 20-year-old revealed he has not had any talks with parent club Dundee about his future after January – with a chance new boss Jim McIntyre could recall him to Dens Park.

But the defender hopes to remain at Ton – and today thanked the fans for the welcome they have given him at Cappielow.

The Scottish Premiership side recently sacked manager Neil McCann and brought in former Ross County boss Jim McIntyre last month.

Waddell was a regular for McCann from February onwards, making 22 first team appearances.

But he fell down the pecking order at the Dark Blues at the start of this season, and was loaned out to get more first team experience.

With a change of manager it might affect Morton’s chances of extending the 20-year-old’s loan at Cappielow if they choose to do so.

But the defender insists he’s fully focused on his immediate future at the Ton, and would be happy to extend his stay with Jonatan Johansson’s team.

He says he’s got a great relationship with the Ton support – and would be happy to see out the season at least with the Cappielow side.

He told the Tele: “I’ve not spoken to anyone at Dundee about my future at all.

“I’m keeping half an eye on how they’re getting on, but I’m trying to put all that talk behind me at the moment.

“If Jim McIntyre wants to speak to anyone he’ll probably speak to the gaffer here, but I’m just trying to focus on my football at Morton at the moment.

“I’d be delighted to stay here and help us push for the play-offs.

“It’s important to get on with the fans and they seem to be taking to me so far. The feeling is mutual, I’m loving my time down here.”

Waddell has been back in the side recently after injuries at the start of the season hampered his progress.

The centre-back has been in impressive form, putting in a standout performance to help Ton to a 5-1 victory over Partick Thistle at the weekend.

The 20-year-old had to put his body on the line against the Jags – with a nasty cut on his head stitched up at half-time.

He added: “I got three stitches at the break.
“I thought it was an elbow at the time but the referee said it was just a clash of heads.

“I’ve had a few head knocks in my time and I knew straight away it was cut, but you just get patched up, get back out there and get on with winning the gane.”

Waddell says the head knock won’t affect his availability for this weekend’s match.

He added: “I’m getting the stitches taken out after the Alloa game on Saturday and it’s all healing up okay.

“There was no chance I was going to miss the game – and no chance I was coming off last week either!”

The defender is enjoying being part of a back five, including three centre-backs, having previously played a similar role with Dundee.

Waddell says he feels it allows him to be more aggressive in his play.

He said: “I lined up as part of a back five for Dundee last season and I feel it does suit my game.

“It means my game is going onto the park and being aggressive on the ball, it means I can go out and win headers and tackles and Bucky [Gregor Buchanan] and Lee [Kilday] can cover me.”
