MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson insists he’s not afraid to make more big calls with team selection in the future with the Ton.

A few Ton supporters raised eyebrows at the selection of teenager Reece Lyon against Queen of the South last week, with other more experienced midfielders readily available.

But it was a decision that paid off for the Morton boss, as Lyon went on to produce a man of the match display – capped off with a fine goal on his first senior start.

The manager has always said he is keen to give youth a chance, and says he will continue to take risks and make changes in the team.

He told the Tele: “You have to be focused on what you think is right and you have to make these decisions in the long run to make it right.

“I’m quite into profiling players and looking at what types of players I need to use in this system, against this opponent and in this role.

“Then it comes to form, confidence and how players are performing, everything comes into it.

“There’s a lot that goes into a decision like that – and there’s a little bit of gut feeling as well.

“I knew I was taking a calculated risk picking Reece. It can go wrong, but after the Ross County game I felt everything needed freshened up a bit, and luckily the boys have given me some good performances since.”
