MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson insists they can’t take part-time side Alloa Athletic for granted today.

The Wasps are the only team the Ton boss has yet to face so far in his time in Championship, as Jim Goodwin’s side prepare to head to Cappielow.

The Clackmannanshire outfit sit in ninth place heading into the game and have been left frustrated in several of their games recently, losing out or drawing games they could have won.

The last game between the two sides was close at the Indodrill Stadium, and it took Chris Millar’s first double in over 12 years to seal the three points for the Greenock side back in August.

Johansson says they must fight in every game this season to get their rewards, regardless of who the opponent is.

He told the Tele: “It’s the final league side for me to face, it’s a tough game but a good game. I’ve seen them a few times and they’re very well organised.”

“They’re dangerous on counterattacks, good at set plays and crosses and it’s an opponent we have to take really seriously and prepare for, it’ll be a tough game for us physically as well.

“It’s strange this year as the teams who have started badly, some will be operating on big budgets and they’ll be looking to go up.

“They’ll be saying they’re going to look bounce back and go straight into the play-offs, so the league is a little bit too even to call.

“It’s the same for us. We can look at teams with bigger budgets but you can’t look at players, names or budgets in this league, you need to fight in every game and to put in the hard work — and we’ll need to do that against Alloa.”

One player Morton will be hoping will make an impact for them against the Wasps is Robert Thomson.

The striker came on for 10 minutes against Partick Thistle last week, having been out for several months due to a groin injury, with his last game for the first team back in August against Dumbarton in the Irn-Bru Cup.

The 25-year-old got some more minutes under his belt against Dunfermline Athletic for the reserves on Tuesday and Johansson hopes the forward will be back in starting contention soon for the Ton.

He added: “Thomson has been playing for the reserves and should be close to match fitness. He should be in the squad.

“We’ve been working him really hard on a physical level so he should be close to full speed but it’s different to get match fitness without getting games under your belt.”
