MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson says he is ‘open’ to the idea of signing midfielder Nicky Low.

The Greenock native is a free agent after leaving League of Ireland outfit Derry City last month.

The 26-year-old has been training with the Morton Reserves at Parklea since returning to Scotland.

The midfielder came on as a second-half substitute for John Sutton’s side on Thursday, playing as a trialist against Manchester United’s Under-23.

The manager said he was keen to keep good links with local players at the club, and while he wouldn’t be drawn to commenting on whether an offer had been made or not, Johansson said nothing was being ruled out at this stage.

He told the Tele: “He’s a local lad, he’s a very good professional and he’s very good with the younger players. He’s a good character.

“Once the league finished in Ireland he phoned up and asked if he could train with us to get fit for January because he was looking for a new challenge.

“It’s important that people who are local and are good come into train and he’s been training with the reserves and he got a chance to play.

“I’m not going to comment on anything, but we’re keeping every possibility, and stay as open as we can. I believe it’s good to keep an open mind with these things.”
