YOUNGSTER Reece Lyon has been backed by Jonatan Johansson to make another big impact for Morton soon.

The 18-year-old stormed onto the scene with a stunning late winner on his full debut against Queen of the South back in October.

But he was ruled out with a knee injury for over a month after the victory over Queens, and has made just one start since, plus four appearances off the bench.

He has been a regular in the matchday squads, alongside fellow reserve players Lewis McGrattan and Ben Eardley.

After that ‘massive setback’, Johansson says the teenager will no doubt be back in the spotlight again soon after playing well for the reserves recently.

He told the Tele: “Reece is the one younger player at the club we pushed.

“He came into the team well and he scored against Queen of the South and then he was out for five or six weeks after. For him it’s about him coming back to fitness.

“With young players we want to keep them involved, we want to feature them but they have to be fit enough and robust enough to feature in those games.

“Reece now has come on and he’s looking back to where he was before the Queen of the South game.

“It was a massive setback for him and if he keeps doing well in the reserve games and continues to do well in there then he and other players will come in eventually.”
