MORTON manager Jonatan Johansson has hailed the securing of Reece Lyon as a ‘great move’ by the club as he looks to sign more players up for next season.

The 19-year-old, inset, who joined the club’s academy back in 2013, extended his stay with the Ton to 2021 on Thursday.

The teenager broke into the first team this season and has impressed when called upon by Johansson.

The Ton boss said it was a ‘priority’ to tie up the youngster, and hopes to have more of his first team signing new deals soon, with more contracts set to be signed in the next few days.

He told the Tele: “It’s great for the club.

“He’s a talented young boy and he’s come through the whole academy since the start which is great.

“It shows he’s been coached well, he grew up in the area and he loves the club, so it all makes sense.

“Reece was very keen to stay as well and it was good for all parties and he’s worked his way through the academy.

“He’s proven there’s a pathway through and it’s up to myself and my coaches and Reece himself to make that next very important step, which is the most difficult one.

“It’s a good one to have tied up and it’s what we want to try and do. Reece is the first player but we want to look at doing others deals as well.

“It’s going to be a case of one at a time and depending on how games go. We’re obviously looking at other players as well to strengthen the team.

“We are trying to do business and to get a few more over the line. Reece was a priority for me and now we’re looking forward to doing the next one and we look forward to announcing that in the next few days.”
