JOHN Sutton has revealed the highlight of his first year at Morton was seeing Reece Lyon star for the first team - and the head of development expects more to come from the midfielder.

The 19-year-old began in his development squad, but got his first call-up in an Irn Bru Cup game against Dumbarton, along with several other youth team players.

Lyon then managed to establish himself in the first team, making 20 appearances and scoring twice, including a stunning late winner against Queen of the South on his full debut.

Lewis McGrattan made several appearances as well, while Ben Eardley and Darren Hynes were also on the bench throughout last season.

Sutton hopes more of his players can follow in Lyon’s footsteps and begin to break into the first team this season.

He told the Tele: “The best thing of all for me was seeing Reece doing so well and Lewis McGrattan being on the fringes. Hopefully this year there will be a few more going that way.

“It’s given them a bit of light at the end of the tunnel seeing what Reece did, and I still think there’s a lot more to come from him.

“He not only played but played really well at times and there are boys that have seen that and probably think they could do the same, and fingers crossed they’re able to do that.”
