GOUROCK footballer Greg Taylor says making his full international debut against Belgium was a ‘special’ moment — and was thrilled to swap shirts with super star Kevin De Bruyne after the game.

The 21-year-old Kilmarnock left-back was thrown in at the deep end as Scotland took on the number one team in the world in Tuesday night’s Euro qualifier.

The Red Devils haven’t not lost a competitive tie at home since September 2010 and it proved a difficult night for Steve Clarke’s side, who were beaten 3-0 by Roberto Martinez’s team thanks to a Romelu Lukaku double and a De Bruyne strike in injury time.

But the former Clydeview Academy pupil was full of pride after his solid performance against Martinez’s men, saying it was a ‘dream’ come true to wear the Scotland jersey.

He said: “This is the pinnacle for me, I’m extremely proud and feel privileged.

“It was a special moment for me and my family to make my full international debut.

“My mum and dad were at the Cyprus game and proud to see that and they’d have been proud watching at home.

“It is every boy’s dream to play for Scotland so I was over the moon with that.

“Unfortunately it came in a defeat but there were positives within the match for us all to take.

“Belgium are ranked number one so I don’t think I’ll play against much harder opposition than that.

“It’s a massive experience and I can only improve from it.

“I’m still 21 and the youngest in the squad but hopefully I’ve got a few years in front of me and I can gain a few more caps.

“Belgium are packed with top players and I was up against Kevin De Bruyne and I managed to get his top, which is a nice wee memento from the game.”

His former Killie manager Clarke, who took over the national team last month, says he was more than confident Taylor could step in to replace captain Andy Robertson.

The Scotland boss added: “He didn’t surprise me.

“I worked with Greg for 18 months and I knew he was ready.

“I thought his performance was excellent from start to finish.

“It was a big ask for him but I know his temperament, I know his character.

“He showed everyone that he was deserving of his start.”
