MORTON manager David Hopkin says striker Bob McHugh offers a different threat up top compared to his other frontmen.

The Ton forward signed on for his third season at Cappielow last month after taking a pay cut to stay at Sinclair Street.

Hopkin has added striker Robbie Muirhead in recent weeks, as well as ex-Gateshead forward Cameron Salkeld.

McHugh had previously revealed Hopkin tried to sign him when he was manager of Livingston, and said that played a part in him remaining at Morton.

The 27-year-old had his most profitable campaign in front of goal last term for the Ton, scoring 10 goals in 36 appearances, before his season was cut short after suffering a hairline fracture in his leg.

Hopkin told the Tele: “He’s a different striker from what we have, he’s got good hold-up play and he can score goals.

“He started really well last season and he got injured.

“Bob is a player I tried to sign at Livingston when he was at Falkirk, and I was glad he reiterated his desire to work with myself and the backroom staff.

“I’m delighted, and I’m just looking forward to having everyone back in for pre-season.

“I want to try and improve everyone, it will be a young team this year going forward.”

Meanwhile, Morton have missed out on signing Clyde centre-back Tom Lang, with Dunfermline Athletic understood to have beaten the Ton to signing the 21-year-old after a bid at the 11th hour.
