NEW Morton goalie Sam Ramsbottom hopes to improve his game this season under coach Dave Timmins.

The pair worked together at Tranmere Rovers before being reunited at the Ton this summer.

The 23-year-old, inset, had to do without a goalkeeping coach last season when he was playing with part-time outfit Alfreton Town. But now with a goalkeeping coach behind him, who has worked with the likes of ex-England international Joe Hart and Crystal Palace shot stopper Wayne Hennessey over the years, Ramsbottom insists will go his game to the next level.

He told the Tele: “I went 12 months without having a keeper coach, which was due to being part-time and there was a tight budget at Alfreton. I couldn’t really complain but I know Timo [Timmins] can take my game to the next level as I’ve seen him do it with other goalkeepers.

“If I’m playing week-in, week-out with his support and the players and gaffer behind me then there’s no reason why I can’t do well. If we do well as individuals, the team is only going to get better.

“He’s worked with some big hitters like Tim Krul, Joe Hart and Wayne Hennessey. He knows his stuff and I’ve known him since 15 and he was half the reason why I came up. I wanted to be number one somewhere and have some decent coaching behind me and that’s what I’m going to try and do this season.”
