DAVID Hopkin says Morton’s win over Alloa has given them a great boost going into Saturday’s Betfred Cup last-16 showdown with Hibernian at Easter Road.

Hopkin knew it was vital to get three points against the Wasps with Ton turning their attentions to cup business in the capital.

The Cappielow side drew the Leith outfit after finishing as one of the best runners up of the group stages.

Hopkin said: “The win sets us up nicely for the Hibs game.

“I think it was important to get something from the game because we knew going to Hibs on Saturday, we won’t have a league game.

“We don’t want to fall behind everyone else, which we would have done if we hadn’t picked up a draw or a win.

“It’s important we got the three points which is the main thing and as I said to the players it gives us a boost going into the weekend where we’ll try to go and win the game.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Reece Lyon put pen to paper on a contract extension to keep him at Cappielow until June 2022.
